anger management

September 23, 2008

Anger! that was all I could think of when I read the papers today. (here is a thought -when was the last time the newspaper made you happy-sports page excluded!) I know this is the second “serious” post in a very short span of time. But its important I think. All the clippings had one common thread running through-anger. Anger of nature, anger of minorities, anger of fanatics, anger in commerce, anger in politics!!!! Wadding through the papers is one very stressful activity.

Why is the world so angry? This anger manifests itself in so many different ways. terror. Delhi.Orissa. Bihar. kosi.Lehman Bros. churches. Banglore.

The consequent stress, mess, conflict, politics, arm twisting and misery is unending. It reminds me forcibly of these unending hypnotic concentric circles-recursive loops as my more intellectual friends would call it.

what is the end we hope to reach? where is the solution? who is going to be our messiah? will there be a messiah? WHAT IS THE TELOS?

so many questions which I will not even attempt to answer-why? simple because I don’t know the answer!!I am as trapped as anyone else walking towards some elusive utopia!!!

searching forever and always for the answers…

P.S: This post was written by my Friend U..!

It is a Mad Mad Mad World..!!

September 18, 2008

People use the word mad in so many different circumstances. I dont know why but i just Google searched for the meaning of Mad. I got 17 possible meanings. A 3 letter word has so many possible usages and so many meanings. Really Funny!

Mad could mean: discorded in intellect; crazy, insane; angry, Furious with rage, terror, to rave, foolish.

Mad could also mean this: an earthworm, the name of the female fairy esp. the queen of fairies..!

To call an Idiot mad and also call a fairy mad is so hilarious!

Now Isn’t this a Mad Mad Mad world??

If you are not convinced let me you tell something more. There are different kinds of people in this world. The intellectual ones, the smart ones, the sane and of course the insane! I meet more of the insane! Insane means mad right??! I call them Mad because they ask really stupid questions. some don’t ask questions but give comments that can put one off.

A few days back I was discussing Tennis with a few of my friends and pretty obviously I mentioned Nadal. Some girl walks up to me and asks” What is Nadal?”. I was dumbstruck!

A few months back a jobless uncle( in literal sense too!) asked me what my course is. I answered economics. His answer initially put me off but later I realized I was in this Mad world where such comments are normal. This is what he said” Economics? Lousy course!! Your sister is in US right? With economics you cannot go there, will have to sit at home only!”. Now, how does he know it is lousy? Why should I go to US?? It is indeed a Mad Mad Mad world!

The fact that I have written something really senseless shows that Iam a part of the Mad Mad Mad World! The fact that you have read this and understood/not understood also shows that you are a part of the Mad Mad Mad world!

My name is Madisthan! sheesh! What an influence this world has on me!! ;-)

Operation GOOD! Get-out-of-Delhi( Read: India)

September 14, 2008

Twenty -Two people killed( it can go up), at least 130 injured as serial blasts ,in a span of 25 minutes , ripped across the Delhi markets on a Saturday evening. It is a repeating story with only the place changing. Two months back, 25th July to be exact, it was Bangalore and then Ahmadabad. Now, with Delhi also hit, the Indian Mujahideen claim to have successfully completed their ‘ Operation BAD’ (Bangalore-Ahmadabad-Delhi). Almost instantly, like in all the previous blasts, the police set on their foot to crack the case and grab the terrorists. In a week’s time they even claim to have cracked the case. The various political leaders ‘condemn’ the attack and some even visit the blast sites and of course they offer cash to the victims and their families. Television channels host debates to discuss the issue with some politicians also participating in it.The opposition blame the ruling government, they suggest security measures but they leave it all at the sets of the show. There is a lot of discussions, anger and high level meetings and not to forget red alert in other metros for the next one week. After a week, everything is back to normal, security takes a nap until the next blasts come( in a matter of a couple of months)and the whole thing happens again.

It is time we all wake up and fight the terrorists and gear up to face their attacks. Basically our security system sucks. There are 26 cars patrolling with every Politician every time he steps out. Keep them but make sure that the common man’s life is secure too( from such attacks). Immediately after the Delhi blasts there was a report that the CCTV cameras that were in place did not function. Wouldn’t that have been crucial in finding out the culprit if not preventing his attack?. Stop discussing on what is to be done and do something. I know it is easier said than done but it is time we all wake up to this perilous issue. Here I don’t just blame the security, the government, the police. Every citizen has an important role to play. How many of us bother to inform or look into something that looks suspicious as we walk in the road? We probably walk away thinking it is somebody’s business but we forget to realize that it such things that could carry away our lives. it may sound foolish to look at everything in the road with a suspicion but it is better to be foolish than fooled. It is only when we do our things right can we blame them( terrorists) when there is an attack. Our loop-holed system provides them the space to attack again and again.

Another Important thing is it is not a one man’s business to fight terrorism. We need to stand united. I say this at a time when Kashmir and Jammu ( Read: Hindus and Muslims) are fighting, Christians and Hindus are fighting it off in Orissa. We need to break free from our religion politics and communal violence. It is frustrating to watch Raj Thackray and the Bachans fighting on linguistic prejudices. How does it matter if you are a Marathi or HIndi as long as you are an Indian? Internally we have so many divides and no wonder we have become such a soft target of terrorism. Our political parties also need to unite at least on this issue. It is time we send a strong message to these terrorist groups and fight them.

Operation BAD is over and it is time Operation GOOD begins!

SATYAM!

September 2, 2008

When I watched the film Satyam( At 8 30 am) starring Vishal and Nayantara( actually I think she made a guest appearance considering that she was there only for the songs) I never thought people would choose to watch this movie( I did not. I watched it by chance). In a casual, regular chat with UNC I realised other people did watch the movie. But nevertheless Unc did not like it either. We reviewed this movie and this is how it went:

MADISTHAN: watched any movie?

UNC : saw sathyam. crap

MADISTHAN : i watched it too! Super time pass. So hilarious.
UNC : why?
MADISTHAN:my friends had come down ( from REC trichy) the weekend it released..and somebody gave her 3 extra tickets for that movie! so 3 of us went at 8 30 in the morning fot that movie..and it was soo irritating!
UNC : so You liked the movie?
MADISTHAN : NOOOOOOOOO! That is why I found it funny! The climax was exceptionally hilarious!

UNC : Yeah, he(Vishal) should stop “look at the camera and mouth one liners”. I mean Rajini and

kamal did it after 100 movies. Not in their 5th movie!

MADISTHAN : Yeah. Upendra was awesome though!

UNC : Yeah. Wasted effort!

MADISTHAN : I still wonder what nayantara did in th movie!

UNC : Yeah! waste! Vishal should not try vijay tricks

MADISTHAN : Hmmmmmm! Harris Jayaraj songs sounds the same in all his movies. BORED.

UNC : Yeah. harris has repeated and has the same audience. No improvements.

MADISTHAN : Yeah!

This should pretty much convey the crap named satyam. Only consolation is Upendra ( Kannada actor) , he did a fabulous job though that did not score much for the film. Harris Jayraj’s music is nice-if you are new to his music and Tamil music as such.

I guess none of you reading this would watch this movie unless of course you are related to the producers!
